Let the games begin!

If people knew how hard I worked to get my mastery, it wouldn’t seem so wonderful at all.

I once read or heard somewhere got it takes 10 years to become an overnight success.

Well I can certainly attest to it took 10 years for this blog for this website to come to life for this to come to fruition.

I purchased marvintowler.com on September 28th 2007. I had known about the importance of blogging since 2004. Now in a lot of ways I'm an early adopter but in this case I think it's more a matter of when the Teacher is ready the student appears.

I was watching an episode Saturday Night Live where the host was Aziz Ansari.  They had a great skit call “The Beat the Bookworm” where Aziz played a character who had done nothing but read books and was so proud of himself that he was “smarter than you!”

The kicker was when his opponent got to pick the question category. She picked 90's pop culture. His character immediately became flustered because as he screamed “I don't know anything about 90’s pop culture all I was doing was reading books in the 90’s.” I could relate because that’s pretty much the course of action I pursued over the last 10 years.

Well a couple of days ago I saw something that just affirmed that it was time for me to launch this next phase this new platform of sharing knowledge with people. I've been subscribing to Tim Ferriss since he wrote the Four-Hour Work Week so that must be since 2007-08. Tim has a reputation of being a guinea pig and finding the latest and greatest tips, tactics, tools, and hacks. Well on Friday when I got Tim's 5 bullet point Friday and he was sharing about what wine he was drinking lately and he said Turley Zinfandel it's undervalued and he was put on to the wine by his Master Sommelier friend. My head spun around because I’d first had a Turley Zinfandel in 1997. (The Petite Sirah’s are more coveted btw…)

The good stuff!

The good stuff!

It made me think back to 2010 you when I first returned from California to the East coast and I was hanging out with my law school buddy Habib. I'm just talking and Habib said “you remind me of this guy I saw on TV the other day you know he does all these experiments and he's always finding all this crazy stuff. Have you heard of him? Hi name is Tim Ferriss?”

What's the point of this post? It is this: there's a lot of information out there but there's not a lot of people who can curate and discern as to what's useful and what's just fluff. I'm here with you because I want to share with you the knowledge I've gained by reading so many books, attending seminars and having met and worked so of today’s Though Leaders.

I have taken so much for granted and I'm not going to do that anymore. I am here to provide you with value. I'm so glad that I have finally said yes to being of service now. Welcome and enjoy the ride!
